Immunotherapy

CANCER IMMUNOTHERAPY AKA IMMUNO-ONCOLOGY

A form of cancer treatment that uses/harnesses the body’s own immune system to stop cancer.

It comes in a variety of forms and can be used in combination with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation or targeted therapies:

  Antibodies
  B Cells
  CD8 + Killer T Cells
  Cytokines
  Exosomes

  Dendritic Cells
  CD4 + Helper T Cells
  Regulatory T Cells
  Macrophages

CHECKPOINT INHIBITORS

Tumours exploit T-cell checkpoints designed to prevent autoimmunity. Inhibitors of these T-cell ‘brakes’ can result in cancer clearance

TUMOUR INFILTRATING LYMPHOCYTE (TIL) THERAPY

T-cells can be expanded from patient tumour to large number and reinfused back into patient blood leading to cancer clearance.

ENGINEERED T-CELLS FOR
ADOPTIVE THERAPY

CAR-T : Patient T-cells can be engineered with cancer-specific chimeric (CARs) antigen T-cell receptors and  transfused back into patient blood

TCR-T : Patient T-cells can also be equipped with T-cell receptors (TCRs) from cancer survivor’s blood

VACCINES

Knowledge of what works will allow broad spectrum therapeutic cancer vaccination.

VASCULAR ENDOTHELIAL GROWTH FACTOR INHIBITORS (VEGFi)

Therapies that inhibit vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling, have improved the outlook for patients with some cancers.

IMMUNOTHERAPY IS THE FUTURE OF CANCER CARE, HERE’S WHY:

Targets cancer cells specifically and does not affect healthy cells

Immune System ‘memory’ will target cancer if it returns

Can ‘adapt’ if cancer mutates and destroy the ‘new’ cancer

Immuno-oncology therapies are being approved globally and having very successful outcomes in some cancers

Immunotherapy is helping extend and save lives of patients right now!
